What I need to pack for mountain tours?

Please remember that all our tours go up into very high mountains and pack your equipment and clothes accordingly. The temperatures above 5.000 m can drop down quickly to -10 degrees. The second camp on Mt. Ararat is already in an ice zone.

 

Packing and equipment list:

Bag for your main luggage e.g. a touring back pack and a smaller day back pack ca.40 l
Sleeping bag (min. – 5 degrees)
Bivouac sack (bivy bag) not essential in summer
Thermo mat (we now supply a 5 cm foam mat, very comfortable)
Hiking boots (suitable for crampons)
Crampons (can be borrowed for € 20 – but please notify us in advance)
Sandals/trainers/sport shoes
Gaiters
Hiking sticks (important)
Waterproof clothes – jacket & overtrousers
Bathing suit
Sun hat
Good sunglasses or glacier glasses (UV protection)
Warm hat (fleece/wool), gloves (plus spares)
Headlamp with spare batteries
Passport or identity card

Day rucksack/back-pack (30 – 40 litres volume)
Waterproof cover for the rucksack or waterproof liner inside rucksack
Sleeping bag (feather/down +15° to – 20°)
Inflatable thermo-mat (optional) (we now have 5 cm foam insulating mats, very comfortable)
Stiff or rigid hiking boots suitable for crampons + crampons (can be hired locally)
Gaiters
Hiking poles (no ice-axe required)
Anorak Overtrousers
Woolly/fleece hat, headband, gloves
Softshell jacket, pullover
Thin fleece sweater
2 long-sleeved mountaineering shirts
2 short-sleeved shirts
2 – 3 T-shirts
Mountaineering trousers (good with zip-off legs)

2-4 pairs thick hiking socks

Long johns, warm vest (Ski underwear)

Thermos flask (1 litre )
Sunglasses (suitable for high altitudes)
Sun cream, lip balm, poss. eyedrops for irritated eyes
Toilet accessories, hand towel
Head lamp
Watch, mobile telephone

Travelling first-aid kit: Medication for stomach disorders, colds, coughs, headaches, bloodpressure or circulation problems, Voltaren for aches & pains
Sterile bandages, elastic bandages, plasters, plasters for blisters, 2 triangular bandages
Sterilisation tablets for drinking water (Mikropur)
Insect repellent
Waterproof plastic or nylon bag (poss. in kit bag), for dirty washing or problematic rubbish (like batteries and aluminium foil)
